You’ve had a real wedding published, been included in an editorial piece or won an award … What did you do with it?

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not sharing the news yourself. Finding the time to promote these features can be hard but if you don’t do it; it was all for not. Why? Couples love having their wedding featured on popular wedding blogs or in their favorite bridal magazines- they also want to see their vendors as experts… after all that is what they are paying for, your expertise. This is also a great way to reach new clients and potential partners. All these features are free advertising and you need a plan. Here are three common mistakes that are easily rectified.

  1. You forgot to tell the couple. This is a no-brainer. Who could be more excited about sharing the news than the couple themselves? NO ONE! These real wedding features are just as good as reviews with the added bonus of beautiful pictures. rarely do people talk about the review they just left you.

  2. Not promoting your features on your own social channels; Instagram, Facebook, your blogPromoting your wedding publicity and feature placements on social media is a great way to draw attention to your brand, drive traffic to your website and the site where the feature was published so potential clients have more opportunities to engage with your business.

  3. Not having a press page or having one and not keeping it up to date. If you don’t have one, now is the time to add one to your website. If you have it but only update it once a year you are missing out. Having a dedicated place where your press features live and are current, is a must. Posting on social media is very important (see above), but those posts only stay at the top of your feed for so long. Having a press page for your wedding public relations features ensures they will live on and be accessible.

Are you making any of these mistakes? I promise you are not alone- but don’t let it continue. Taking the time to submit to magazine’s and blogs, to work on shoots, or to give an interview is work you do on top of your work don’t let them disappear because you don’t have a plan.
